Vale Southern selected for office transformation

The Institute of Healthcare Engineering and Estate Management (IHEEM) has selected Vale Southern Construction to refurbish its head office in Portsmouth.

An independent professional engineering institute, the IHEEM provides guidance and development opportunities for engineers and estate managers in the healthcare sector. Its head office is home to the senior leadership team as well as finance, membership, support and training staff.

Scheduled to be on site for 14 weeks, Vale Southern will upgrade the ground and first floor office space. With sustainability at the heart of the improvements, the transformation includes a new mechanical and electrical package to improve energy efficiency. All technologies will be electric with equipment designed to generate renewable energy and improve indoor air quality, thermal comfort, acoustic performance and security.

The scope of works will also see the Vale Southern team replace windows and doors and enhance the on-site training experience. New dynamic training rooms will be created with acoustic and glazed partitions together with bespoke storage and breakout space.

Pete Sellars, CEO of IHEEM, highlighted the importance of the ongoing modernisation of the IHEEM headquarters, describing it as a significant commitment for the Institute.

He stated: "The redevelopment of our headquarters demonstrates IHEEM's sustained growth and ambition over the last few years. The new head office will feature state-of-the-art meeting and training facilities for members, along with a comprehensive refurbishment of the building's shell, aligning with IHEEM's long-term carbon reduction and sustainability goals.

“IHEEM is pleased to have appointed Vale Construction to lead this project. The decision reflects IHEEM's commitment to carbon reduction and sustainability, as we prioritised hiring companies within a 20-mile radius of Portsmouth to minimise the carbon footprint associated with the development.”

Oliver West, Managing Director of Vale Southern, said: “We’re looking forward to helping IHEEM to transform a building that’s not been touched since the 1990s. The new interior will provide a more modern environment for staff and trainees while delivering significant environmental and energy efficiency improvements.

“Our priority is to deliver the refurbishment quickly and effectively, enabling IHEEM’s staff to return to their office and recommence training with minimal disruption.”
